- The New York City Waterfalls open!

Four mechanical fountains will be installed on the shores of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Governors Island and will stand from 90 to 120 feet tall. They will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. with lights shining on them after sunset.
"These waterfalls will be just as awe-inspiring as any foun nd in nature," bragged Mayor Bloomberg Tuesday after unveiling plans at South Street Seaport for the art project.
"They really must be seen to be believed," he added.

The Rooftop Films 2008 Summer Series will run every weekend from May 31-September 27, screening 19 feature films and over 150 short films in 38 screenings. We’ll be in a dozen spectacular outdoor locations all over the city. There will be world premieres of daring new independent feature films, and d screenings of award-winning short films in exciting, themed programs. All screenings include live music before the films, and most screenings include after-parties with free drinks.

The folks at the Hoboken Cove Boathouse sent out an e-mail announcing their first free kayaking day: Sunday July 6th. It’s a great chance to try kayaking without having to go too far. It also means that if you want to cross the Hudson river on a kayak like I did two years ago - and do it for free - - this is is your opportunity. You need to e-mail the organizer to sign up for that, but please only sign up if you’re in decent shape and definitely available - if you don’t show up it means that someone has to tow the kayak back to Manhattan. more
